Tarot Talk: The Seven of Pentacles and Autumn

The Seven of Pentacles, also known as Seven of Coins, is the autumn card of the Tarot for me.

In the Rider Waite deck (probably the most common deck of all), this card is depicted with a man looking down at plants that are about to be harvested - but are not quite yet ready just yet. This is the card of patience and temperance. It signifies that when we sow our seeds, we must tend to them with quiet and calm patience as they grow. Only through honoring Mother Nature's gestational period of growth for the plant kingdom can we reap the fruitful and often delicious rewards.

In this card, one pentacle plant looks to have fallen off of the bush. The symbolic meaning of this is that autumn is a season that reminds us to let go. Think of the leaves cascading to the ground from trees. They show us how beautiful it is to let go. Releasing yourself from something could be about leaving a community, stopping a habit, or surrendering a belief system.

Patience is not just about the process of waiting but the "how" you wait. Surrender and letting go will allow you to have more peace, contentment, and ease as you journey through life. 

To me, the number 7 means completion. It took 7 days to create the world in biblical texts, and each week has seven days. The energy of the seven is good for stopping and starting something new, ending, and beginning things. It can remind you to withdrawal from external events and focus on the inner relationship with yourself. Right before entering winter, nature stores up energy to weather the cold. Do this yourself and be introspective. You could start by readdressing goals, disappointments, dreams, and intentions you have.

That said, this card has many other meanings, and getting a reading can help you discern what the message is. Personally, when I draw the seven of pentacles in a Tarot reading, it is often a reminder to celebrate all the work I've done so far and to trust that the fruits of my labor are about to pay off. It serves as an encouragement.

In reference to autumn, here's what this card means in the following life areas:

Finances: Money is about to increase. Just give more time to reap the rewards of your past efforts. You've saved up a lot of money, and now is the time to treat yourself by buying the things you need or want.

Love: Be open to new possibilities around love. Someone who is a Virgo or Libra is likely going to enter your life.

Home: It's time to clean out old things and donate them - declutter your home.

Family: Gather with family and enjoy one another's accomplishments.

Life Purpose: Share your skills and talents in a new way to those who will honor what you have to offer. Celebrate all you've done so far and gear up for the coming months.
