Tarot Tutorial: Seven of Wands Meaning

Discover the meaning behind the 7 of Wands.

At first glance, it might look like the person on the traditional version of the Seven of Swords isn’t doing too well. After all, six unknown figures are coming at them with wands of their own. But don’t count our hero out! Not only are they facing the haters with determined looks on their faces, but they’ve also got the advantage of the all-important high ground.

There’s no question that it’ll be hard when this card shows up in a reading. Even if the odds look like they are against you, you’ve still got a fair chance of coming out OK at the end of it all. Keep on fighting for the things that are important to you.

Seven of Wands in a Love Reading

While the Seven of Wands isn’t the worst card to get in a love reading, it’s not exactly great either. You and your boo may be getting along great, but there could be outside pressure on your relationship. Maybe your friends all roll their eyes when you talk about your partner. Perhaps their family gives you a side-eye every time you walk into the room. It could even be work schedules/ pressures threatening to drive a wedge in your relationship. Whatever it is, it doesn’t look like the pressure will soon let up.

If the Seven of Wands comes up in a position representing you, it’s letting you know that it’s 100% possible to take a more proactive role in dealing with the obstacles and naysayers. It might be time to sit down with your squad and address their concerns while letting them know that you are grown and have the final say in your love life. You may need to go on a charm offensive with your boo’s folks to get them to warm up to you. If you want this relationship to work, it’s entirely possible, but you and your partner must have a united front when facing opposition.

While all relationships have challenging moments, if the Seven of Wands shows up reversed in a love reading, it’s time to ask yourself if the struggle is still worth it. You may be rolling around in a make-up/ break-up cycle that feels great in the bedroom but miserable every place else. The problem is coming from inside the house, not outside pressure. The thing you should be fighting for the hardest is your sense of self-worth.

Seven of Wands in a Future Reading

You might feel like the underdog when the Seven of Wands pops up in a future reading. While you aren’t looking for a face-off, some people around you are more than ready to bring it. Confrontations are just inevitable at this point. The best you can do is be prepared for when they arrive. Check on the other cards in the reading for clues about the who, what, when, and where of the conflicts to come.

If the Seven of Wands turns up in a position representing you, it’s a sign from the Universe that although things are hard, you need to fight for what you know is right. Yeah, there’s a good chance that might mean fighting on your own—or at least with fewer people on your side than you thought there would be. Take some comfort in having the moral high ground in this conflict. This card also says there’s a good chance you will come up on top. Stay strong and keep fighting the good fight.

If the Seven of Wands turns up reversed in a future reading, it’s letting you know you may be getting sucked into unnecessary drama. Repeat after us,  “Not my circus. Not my monkeys.” Even if you feel tempted to pick a side, get all the tea from a reliable source before weighing in. This is SO not the time to pile on just because everyone else is doing it. This situation has a chance of getting toxic. Do as your mama taught you, and mind your beeswax instead. Your time will be better spent focusing on something that will serve you.

The Seven of Wands in a Career Reading

Your workplace might feel as competitive as a reality TV show when the Seven of Swords turns up in a career reading. Only those who bring their A-game will get to stay on the island, so if a fast-paced/high-hustle environment isn’t your jam, you may want to look elsewhere for a paycheck. If, however, you were looking for a position that gives you a chance to flex your strengths, congrats! This card bodes well for any job or career changes, especially if it seems like a big jump.

If the Seven of Wands came up representing you in a career reading, you might be asked to make a very public stand on a particular position or project. You may be making that stand as part of a team, trying together to prove some point to the upper brass. But there’s a chance you may have to prove your point alone too. Gather all your receipts. You should be able to put forth a compelling and reasonable argument for your cause, but it will require some hustle to ensure you have everything you need to make your stand.

If the Seven of Wands comes up reversed in a career reading, there’s a chance of embarrassment—for the company, your team, and *gulp* for you. The surrounding cards might hint where the vulnerable spot is so that you can shore it up before things get worse. This card position also warns not to allow anxiety to take up so much free rent in your brain that you put off doing some vital task. Be brave, get your game face on, and tackle the problems in front of you one step at a time.
